Pump it Up!
Do you have a favorite lotion? Something that gives you smooth and silky skin. What about a fragrance? Do you have a scent that just makes you feel better, brighter, prettier wearing it? Is there a household cleaner you just can't live without?
Why am I talking about it today? Because every time I have to throw away a bottle with an inch or more of product still in the bottom because the sprayer hose doesn't reach the last of the product it makes me cranky. Sometimes when I can be arsed I will transfer the last of the old into a new bottle because as sure as there is little green apples the new bottle of perfume, lotion or household cleaner isn't 'full' when you buy it either.
Yesterday I came to the bottom of my favorite perfumed lotion that is about $15 a bottle. No, not a fortune by any means, but not cheap either. Every time I either give up and throw that last little bit away, which is about two full body applications worth, or go through the laborious process of transferring it to the new bottle it irritates the crap out of me.
I had a boss once who traded in his Mercedes sedan after about a year. He'd paid cash for it and his wife loved driving it but he traded it in and they bought an SUV. He said he got really irked every time he had the car serviced. It seems the cost of service and repairs on a Mercedes is very expensive. He said it's not enough to be able to afford the car, but you have to be able to afford to take care of it. He said he could afford it, but he just resented the hell out of it, so he got rid of the car.
Guess I better change perfume, lotion and cleaner. Because it sure bugs me to throw the unused away.

I make my own household cleaner--vinegar, with lavender oil to make it smell better--so not only do I not have to pay for the others, if I *do* have to throw away anything at the bottom of the bottle, I know it's not going to be toxic. And I'm a COMPLETE cheapskate when it comes to lotions and the like--I cut the tube open to get to the rest of it. Bugging me right now that my makeup base still has some left in the bottom, but I can't get to it and it's a glass bottle, so I'm not going to break it.
And you know what I love--pear lotion. Smells divine!
Hahahaha! Rosie this made me laugh. I guess I have never stuck with one parfume/lotion long enough to ever get to the bottom...I have ADD with everything, including scents!
Household cleaners...well that would imply that I clean my house and my husband would beg to differ with you on that. ;)
Those b*st*rds! I believe it's a conspiracy by the product manufacturers to make you throw it away early and buy a new one. But I'm a huge cheapskate and refuse to throw it away. Like liquid detergent, I add water and use it almost to the last drop. And I scrap the toothpaste tube with the edge of my comb to squeeze out every bit. There are lots of people who just let it go, but I won't let them win!
I LOVE pear lotion too :)
I have soooo many lotions and perfumes it ain't even funny. I'm like addicted. LOL.
Gabrielle, you know I've read about those recipes for home cleaners that are environment friendly and always think to myself that I've got to try it. I'm making a note right now to look for some info on line.
I don't think I've ever tried pear lotion. So...another note. Otherwise I'll forget. :)
Jodi, seriously you've never liked something and gotten to the end of it? Hmmm...I guess I'm too frugal. :P I might have 3 or 4 different kinds at any given time, but unless I hate the product I always finish it.
Renee, thank God! A kindred spirit!
Mailyn, so are you so addicted that you don't worry about the stuff at the bottom and just buy new? Are you one of those people who can shrug and just toss it. I only wish I could do that sometimes.
