A big family, a reading addiction, and the occasional celebrity scandal are the ingredients of life that create one woman's opinion on just about everything.

Aaaargh!

I worked on a post listing books I've read recently and movies I've seen the last couple of weeks and my dsl dropped and I lost it all!!! Aargh! I had links, I had pictures. Man I'm boiled about that. Maybe I'll work on it later and post it tomorrow. I just know I'm too cranky to do it again now. I'm supposed to be on vacation. TGILW is home and everything.

So instead you get this. Do you make your bed every day? I do. Well, mostly. There is the occassional odd day when I just say, "I'm not making my bed today." Then I usually go back in a half hour later or when I return from my errands and make the damn thing. I blame this entirely on my mother by the way. You get up, wash up, dress for school, MAKE YOUR BED, then if there's time left before leaving you get breakfast. It's a curse I tell you.

Don't get me wrong. I like the bed being made. I prefer my sons to make their beds, which they do about 3 days a week when I nudge and nag. It's just feeling enslaved by it that gets me.
Here's my bed. Well, let's just say it's my bed sometimes. I have another duvet cover so my bed doesn't always look like this.

Sometimes it looks like this instead:

So, did you make your bed today?

Like you, I make my bed everyday...except today. And it worked out alright because I got to take a nap today, after having worked so hard to help my sister make my nephew's 1st birthday a hit I was really tired! I had a couple of cancellations for this afternoon and my boss (aka ME) let me take a nap. I have to make my bed everyday, I never know when some real estate broker will want to show my house.

Oh, and if you know of someone looking to buy a really gorgeous 2 story house sans basement in mid-Michigan let me know. Cuz I know of a great one!

LOL - I make mine every day, too. Although I admit, not as neatly as you do. But my mom insisted that we make them. And my poor kids get it passed on to them, too. I think there's nothing a boy-child hates more than having to make his bed in the morning. Unless it's having to shower every day when he's 9. *g*

Amie, yikes! Are you telling me I'm not passing on the make-the-bed impulse to my boys? I only get them to make 'em about half the time anyway.

SS, but you didn't say...does making it everyday make you happy? Sometimes I wish I could just leave it messy. No worries, if I hear of anyone ANY where in Michigan needing a house I'll send 'em your way. Basement, shmasement!

Lori, it was easier getting the boys to make their beds in elementary and jr high school. But when they are getting up at 5:30 a.m. to be at school at 7 a.m. it's tough motivating them. I'm grateful for the days the covers are pulled to the top of the bed and pillows are ON the bed and not the floor.

Wow! Your bed looks great made up!

I don't make my bed up all that fussy unless I have just washed the bedding and even then, it's not nearly as pretty as yours.

I have a different reaction in that I make the bed when it's time for me to get in it. I also make it as Bob is climbing in. I have to have the sheets straight and the duvet straight so I know that it won't get wrapped around me funny and yes I have woken up with the sheets around my neck.

Clean sheets make me happy. Straightening the bed up makes me happy but I don't stress about it after I leave the room. If I happen into the room later and I'm not running around I will grab the corners and straighten it up but I'm not sure I feel overly compelled.

And I think my mom made up our beds. I barely had time to shower when I was a kid because I would hit the snooze button until the last possible second. And then some!

Yeah, I don't make the bed. With 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 husband...it's kind of pointless. Of course, I guess if you really think about it, making the bed is kind of pointless anyway. Then again, I am always trying to come up with excuses to get out of housework. :)

I make my bed EVERY day unless my husband happens to be in it when I leave the house. It's a compulsion. The covers have to been straight when I sleep too. If the sheets get twisted or pull loose from the bottom in the middle of the night, I get up and straigten it or I can't sleep. It's insane but I can't help myself.

Cindy this bed is only a little over a year old. For the first 25 years of my marriage we had a waterbed. Yes, you read it right a waterbed. My husband loved it. We had a beautiful waterbed bedroom suite to. We ended up giving it away to a young newly married couple who really needed bedroom furniture.

Jodi, would that I were more like you. I just can't get over the compulsion to make it.

Marg, no guilt? Man I envy that!

Renee, it's true that misery loves company because I feel better knowing I share my affliction with someone else. : )

Glad I read this today 'cause I can say - yes - my bed is made. Yesterday was another story!!! But that was because I knew I would be changing my nice cosy fleece sheets to the other (400 thread count) ones. Of course I can't use that excuse for the 90% of the times I don't make it.

I always spread it up and make it look neat, but I don't always "make" it.

Wonder what that says about me?

Kristie and Jenster you both sound much more liberated than me. True liberation is not being a slave to something silly like making your bed methinks.
