A big family, a reading addiction, and the occasional celebrity scandal are the ingredients of life that create one woman's opinion on just about everything.

Is something burning?

I smell smoke. I smell cigarette smoke. I smell it mostly at night, but sometimes during the day at work. Both my home and office are smoke free environments. Sure I could blame it on a sneaking co-worker or a son who has a death wish, but I smell it even when I'm alone.

I have to admit this is freaking me out. Has anyone else heard of this or know why I smell smoke all the time? I've been reading stuff online and am convinced that I'm either cuckoo or someone has been secretly adding Downey dryer sheets to my clothes when I'm not looking.

Hey girl. Sometimes when I have a sinus infection, I smell stuff inside my head that noone else can smell. And it's usually that smoky, stinky smell. Any chance it's a sinus infection?

maybe ive been reading too many paranormals...but what if it's MAGIC!?

i just read Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and one of the characters ran away from her abusive boyfriend, but when he's thinking of her or looking really hard to find her, his malevolence is manifested in smelling his cologne.

ok maybe that's not it...but im sure with our imaginations we could come up with some real good smokey stories!

Do you have any articles of clothing or books that may have come from a smoker's environment? We used to receive hand-me-down clothes from our cousins; our aunt was a heavy smoker. I know that the clothes were clean when we received them, but it took more than one washing to get read of that stale cigarette smell.

Lori, after some cursory research online the sinus infection thing came up several times. I had bad headaches (sinus not migraine) last month and my face hurt then, but not now. Also, weirdly after smelling this for five days in a row almost constantly, since I posted I've only had one episode. Veddy veddy strange.

My dear sweet Lusty Reader, I so smiled when I read your comments and could completely picture you earnestly selling this idea. Awesome! And who's to say it's NOT magic???

Kay, your theory has merit, we have had books and clothing given to us as gifts by family members who were smokers and the "cigarette smoke" smell didn't wash or come out of some the of the gifts making them impossible to keep in the house. When the smell comes it's not like that. It's more like someone sitting next to me just lit up.

OMG, Rosie, the EXACT SAME THING has been happening to me lately. I thought I was starting to go a little insane. I used to smoke, so I thought maybe it was just something my brain was doing to torment me.

I haven't had any other sinus problems, though.

Holly, I mentioned to GG yesterday that it seemed to be getting better and then this afternoon wham-o. It's so weird. I don't have my regular check for about another month and I'm just going to wait and talk to the doctor then because I don't feel sick or have sinus headaches or anything.
