What are you reading?
November is not shaping up to be a very productive reading month. Sure I've read a few books, but I'm in the mood for something to REALLY engross me. Something that takes a lot of concentration and focus that engages me completely. I've been sort of hoping that the ARC I won of Megan Hart's next book TEMPTED would get here.
I recently agreed to take delivery of two books by Georgette Heyer COTILLION and AN INFAMOUS ARMY from Sourcebooks. All they asked is that I mention that Ms. Heyer's books were being re-released and maybe do a review when I read one (or both) of them. Since I do like to read English historicals and I've also been wanting to try Ms. Heyer I was happy to get the books for free and mention the re-release of the books. Of course, I noted that the two books I got are not the ones that made the new AAR 100, but what the heck. Like I said, I've been wanting to try out Ms. Heyer and this is my chance. So I guess it's official. I got free books, I pimp their publication and now I'm a full fledged book whore. Anybody feel free to step in and refute my logic. Seriously. Anybody. Really.
All of which has nothing to do with why I'm having a slow reading month. Want to read but don't know what to read. You know like having a food craving but not knowing what you want to eat exactly? Sometimes you get lucky and try something way off the radar and get *ahhhhh* satisfied. That's sort of what I'm hoping will happen with my reading. I'm going to browse through my stash and find something off my current radar and get my craving taken care of. Western? Contemporary? Suspense? Erotic? Sweet? Inspirational?
I had lunch with Super Librarian Wendy yesterday. She whet my appetite for westerns by giving me a great synopsis for THE HORSEMAN by Jillian Hart. I also picked up the new Charlene Sands HH BODINE'S BOUNTY. God knows what will end up in my hot little hands.
Currently I'm struggling through HOLY SMOKES by Katie MacAlister. I've enjoyed this particular series about the adventures of Guardian (not angel) Aisling Grey in the supernatural, paranormal realm. The first couple of books were great. Unfortunately, the last couple have strayed far from the central romance and are involved in the politics and power plays of dragon septs, demons, heaven and hell and well...I've lost interest. The book's not bad, it's *big yawn* boring. I'm sooo disappointed too because I sure liked the first few books. They were funny and entertaining and I'm not one who's particularly enamored of comedy in my romance. I like dark and angsty. But I did enjoy these.
So, I'm muddling along. Distracted by life, work and the upcoming holidays and looking for something to read. What about you. C'mon take a second and comment. What are you reading right now? You might suggest something that will satisfy my craving. You never know... Help a friend out.

I hear you Rosie, it's the same with me. I don't know what to read and your analogy with food was very good. It sucks no? God knows, our TBR piles are huge, but we don't know what to read LOL.
I seriously can't wait for December when they are great releases (unfortunately all at the end of the month). Right now, I'm reading Good Girls Don't by Kelley St.John. Holly has read the lastest by this author, To Catch a Cheat and apparently, it's very good :D
I'm reading 'Flyboys', by James Bradley. It's an amazing story - Love it.
I just finished 'Dust', by Martha Grimes. Once again she outdid herself. This was my favorite one yet.
The book I loved the most so far this year was 'A Coal Black Horse' by Robert Olmstead. Gorgeous writing.
I've always like Georgette Heyer's books - I love her writing, her choice of words, and style. I hope you enjoy the two you got!
Nath, I don't think waiting for a new release is going to help me. I see books everywhere that I think I want to read, but nothing is really catching my interest. I mean I'm reading but nothing is engrossing. I won't give up though! I will find a book...
Sam, you have such broad and eclectic reading taste. I've noted that when reading your blog. I've looked at Martha Grimes a couple of times. Do you have a favorite?
Yeah, I'm sort of curious about Heyer. Who knows, maybe one of them will be my next book.
I'm in the middle of Promises Linger by Sarah McCarty, I started Big Girls Don't Cry by Cathie Linz, but I've been hooked by The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt. I wish I could just curl up and finish it.
I'm going to e-mail you the link of my Horseman review. I wrote it up on the blog last year. And I'm not sure how great my synopsis was! LOL
I just started Where The Road Ends by Tara Taylor Quinn, a romantic suspense novel from a couple years ago. The bulk of the story takes place in Southwest Michigan, which is where I grew up, and Quinn has tossed in some real-life landmarks and highways. So it's a nice trip "home" without having to board an airplane.
If you're going to be a whore, a book whore is the kind to be. LOL
Chantal talked me into reading Caine's Reckoning, which I'll start tonight. And I just finished Catch a Mate the other day. Haven't read anything since then. :P
As for Georgette, I have Devil's Cub in my tbr pile. I've been wanting to try her out for a while myself. So yeah, I'm going to read that soon as well.

I haven't had much time for reading lately, either. But for some reason, when I get in one of those moods where I need something more...I resort back to the classics. I bought two compliation volumes, one of Charlotte Bronte's books and the other of Jane Austen's, and these seem to do the trick for me. It's fun to go back and read them again after a few years, because you pick up on some delightful little things you might have overlooked before.
woopsie...make that "compilation"...I hit post before I read it over. ;-P
Hmmmm.... I think I've written up almiost everything I've read lately. I did finish Fear No Evil, the last of the Allison Brennan trilogy. It pissed me off, can I just say? Dayum! I need her to write the next one - she left way too much hanging for my liking. The trilogy was really good. She writes well.
I've got some Harlequins coming in the mail, cause I got bored and they were having a sale. I'll let you know.
Katie MacCalister is always hit or miss for me. I feel your pain.

I have been glomming Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma mysteries: full-length books and stories. She is a lawyer/Christian nun/daughter & sister to Irish kings; the stories are set in 7th century Ireland, before the Roman rite with its mandatory chastity became the rule for Christianity in Western Europe.
Did you know that there is a new review of Heyer's An Infamous Army on the All About Romance site? There is also a discussion topic. Before you read that book, you might want to read These Old Shades, Devil's Cub and Regency Buck, which all serve as prequels for characters in Infamous Army. Cotillion is an independent, comedy of manners. My favorite Heyer is An Unknown Ajax.

I'm reading 3 books and none of them are blowing my socks off.
1. Secrets of the Heart - Candace Camp
2. Some Christine Feehan Carpathian series book - I have read so many that they all run together and no longer interest me in the least!
3. In My Blood - John Sedgwick, which is about the long line of Sedgwick's (Edie) and their madness. Out of all three, this is the only one that I have been consistent with. Blah
Dev, I'm so jealous because I really liked both those books and wish I was reading something as engrossing now.
Wendy, your synopsis was excellent and you recounted your review remarkably well. What I wouldn't give for that memory of yours.
Ames, how's CAINE'S RECKONING coming? I haven't made the rounds the last two days so I don't know if you've posted about it. Can't wait to see what you think.
Jenster, yeah, well, I haven't read since I did that post. I also seem to be going through a period of fatigue too. I really hate that. I resent the time I have to spend sleeping.
Becky, I was thinking about several of my favorites too, but there are things in my TBR that I DO want to read. Right now it's a question of time and being tired.
Lori, I think I have a couple of Brennans in my tbr...I think. So you read FLYBOYS? The title has me curious. I think I'll check it out.
Kay, thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I'd read a couple of places that there were connected books by Ms. Heyer. However, at Sourcebooks they noted that sequence didn't really matter and the books stand alone. What do you think?
Jodi, LOL...yeah if I'm going to whore myself at least it's for books. So let's see no one refutes me being a whore and you and Ames encourage it? I think I have that right.
I didn't get my author copies yet, Rosie. :( I only got a couple ARCs and planned to send you an actual book, if that's ok? When it gets here, which should be soon!

I'm suffering the same reading blahs. I just started Eloisa James Affair Before Christmas. It's okay. Not good not bad. Definitely not blowing my socks off.
Re: the order of the Heyer books.
The H/H of These old shades are the parents of the H of Devil's Cub. The brother of the H of Regency Buck is the H of An Infamous Army; the granddaughter of the H/H of Devil's Cub is its H.
It really is best to read These Old Shades before Devil's Cub; the order of the others does not matter.

Giselle, I was looking for the Eloisa James book and didn't find it yesterday. I was in too big a hurry to stop and ask for it. Have I mentioned my B&N stinks?
Kay, darn it! I was afraid you were going to say that. Now I have to find a copy of THESE OLD SHADES. I hate reading a book and feeling like I'm in the dark. Thanks for the heads up.
